Defensive back/backup QB type. HS (same as Xavier Nixon) runs the spread.
Michigan might offer him the chance to compete at QB (without risking scaring anyone else off), to get him in the fold and help recruit Xavier Nixon. He will likely end up at DB though.

Could be a depth player if Michigan wants a 3rd QB who won't scare of '10 recruits (or he can switch positions)
A couple of his teammates will be heading to Ann Arbor. He is probably Michigan's if they want him.

Instate QB Mike Schaaf (6-7, 225) from Saginaw Arthur Hill is not a dual-threat guy, but he is a better baseball prospect than football. It's always possible that a prospect like this comes to Michigan for the baseball, and participates in scout-team football as well.

Visited Michigan with McNeal last weekend.

Michigan will like at least one super.

At this phase in the recruiting cycle, the class will probably be about 22 prospects (for the most updated numbers, check out the Eligibility Chart), broken down as such:
2 QBs (Kevin Newsome, Shavodrick Beaver)
1-2 RBs (Teric Jones/Fitzgerald Toussaint, 1 more)
1-3 WRs (Teric Jones/Toussaint maybe 1 more slot, 1-2 outside)
1 TE
3-5 OL (1-2 outside, 2-3 inside)
2 DTs (William Campbell)
2-3 DEs
1-2 LBs (1 inside, 1 outside)
2 CBs (Justin Turner)
2-3 Ss (Isaiah Bell)

“2009 Recruiting Board”

    R. Shepard makes me large in the pants.

You have to wait 5 minutes into his hightlight reel before he's tackled.

I may sound like a high school sophomore girl, but forget Pryor, Shepard is worth waiting for.

  2. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

Wow, great interview by Shepard. He seems like he's got his head on straight. Great support system at home (FINALLY an athlete saying his DAD is his hero); seems very humble, but confident (ie, solid character); a smart kid; phenomenal athlete. He'd be a great get, especially if Pryor does not happen.

can we get a different color for Committed other than a slightly but hardly noticeable color hue of blue?

Or even better a key as to what the colors mean. Such as red, committed but switched(?), navy as just on the board, light navy to almost royal blue as committed.

Thanks, hope the wrist is getting better.

Olive Branch, MS (Rod Woodson's hometown), is a suburb of Memphis, TN.

    Thanks for posting this!

I suggest removing the TE comment regarding "decreased importance in the spread offense. They might take one, but I see some of these TE prospects switching positions if they want to go Blue." This is negative and not entirely accurate.

In March 08 The Wolverine, Coach Magee talked about receivers. "That's the thing I don't think everybody is understanding. Our offense is very adaptable. It can do many things. One of the reasons you didn't see a whole lot of tight ends before is because we didn't have any."

After Carson Butler's 65 yarder, the new staff's eyes were probably popping. The spread is opportunistic and tries to exploit mismatches and space. Expect to see all weapons used, including TEs!

  6. Blogger Tim Says:

The staff was at West Virginia 6 years. If they wanted TEs, they would have picked up TEs. In the new offense, the high school TE is more likely to be used as a big WR, or in a flex-slot position. Either way, TE recruiting will not be a huge priority for this staff.

Why do I have the early feeling that UM is going to have a hard time recruiting for 2009?

Tajh Boyd goes to PHOEBUS High School in Hampton.

Might want to get the spelling corrected on the board.

  9. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

Michigan does need 2-3 safeties but the position is very hard to recruit because of the physical aspect of it. Guys can get too big and move to OLD or not get big enough and stay at CB or WR. Whenever we get a safety commit I wonder where he will actually end up (Like a Brandon Smith)

  10. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

Can you get rid of some of the old comments? I'm tired of reading that Shepard arouses some dude, esp because he's going to LSU!

  11. Blogger Tim Says:

I'm not in the business of modifying what was or wasn't said in the comments.

  12. Blogger RJHOVE Says:

on beaver you put no espn2 instead of on espn2

  13. Blogger RJHOVE Says:

We are getting a track team in pads and helmets...It should be sweet.

  14. Anonymous Anonymous Says:

Well that's strange because you are certainly capable of modifying the comments as the blogs administrator, and it looks really stupid to have that obsolete and obscene comment below your recruiting board every day.

  15. Blogger RJHOVE Says:

What are our chances of getting one of those big athletic wide outs like Todd Thomas, Marlon Brown or Rueben Randle. I would like to see another David Terrell/Braylon Edwards type come through here.

  16. Blogger Tim Says:

If Josh Gordon out of Houston gets an offer, he's as good as ours. He's got good size and decent speed.

The other outside receiver I think we have a really good shot with is Bryce McNeal out of Minnesota. He's not a towering guy, but he has decent size and a lot of ball skills.

Appleton was mentioned again on WTKA as having an offer...recruiting roundup

Michigan extended an offer to CB David Gordon...found it in the Michigan Football Recruiting HQ facebook group newsfeed.
