Shavodrick Beaver Goes Blue

Though many believed Kevin Newsome would be the only top-flight quarterback in Michigan's class of 2009, improbably-named Texas QB Shavodrick Beaver has also committed to Michigan (Scout). Beaver (6-4, 200, 4.5), unlike Newsome, is not expected to enroll early.

Player Notes
Beaver is a run-pass quarterback, with a very good TD-Int ratio for a player with that distinction, especially at the high school level. As the second quarterback in this class, it will not be a surprise if he redshirts in 2009.

Recruiting Notes
Beaver was off the recruiting radar for Michigan fans for quite some time, despite his status as a highly rated dual-threat QB. Beaver wasn't thinking much about Michigan either, as he was prepared to commit to TCU when his Michigan offer came. He quickly reconsidered, and Michigan moved among his top choices, sending TCU fans into a tizzy. After indications that a quarterback could commit this week, many Michigan fans were thinking it would be Tate Forcier yesterday. However, Beaver committed today instead.

It will be interesting to see what Beaver's commitment means for Tate Forcier. Tate has said that Beaver would not scare him off from committing to Michigan, though he doesn't plan to commit until a little later in the process. However, if Tate were to go blue as well, that may frighten Beaver into changing his commitment.

More on Beaver as it happens.

I haven't seen any video on beaver yet

I've been unable to find any from a free source. If you come across any, let me know.

Rich Rod must enjoy having this much freedom when recruiting.

I don't see a scenario where these two play at the same time...more so with tate than beaver. I don't see what kind of role Beaver could play on this team other than redshirt backup until his Senior season and then have a shot a starting job. Tate could be the Chris Leak to Tim Tebow. Spread Qbs get banged up a lot. It sounds you need more than one ready to go, but a different look would be good.

beaver myspaced me...none of his highlights are free.

I actually don't know how happy about this I am... a Forcier commitment now is presumably unlikely.

Admittedly, I haven't seen any SFW Beaver film, but Forcier has a large body of work available on Youtube - and all of it is impressive.

Michigan made an offer to Appleton a 6'3" wide receiver who is #78 on Rivals board. I saw it on the michigan recruiting facebook group that updates daily...I also David Oku saying go big blue today at 8:56 pm. I have a feeling this last commitment from Beaver will open the floodgates over the summer. Top 5 class this year.

Max, I must say I agree that I would rather have Forcier as #2 in the class than Beaver. However, Forcier is adamant that Beaver's commitment will not scare him off, so if he's still feeling Michigan, it seems as though Newsome and Forcier (and Beaver if he doesn't get scared off by Forcier) will be your 2009 QBs.

RJ, thanks for the tips. The Appleton tidbit will be included in Friday's recruiting update (which is looking to be a big one).

Wow Michigan lands two top rated dual threat QBs and now Michigan fans have the audacity to complain?

Remember there were Michigan fans buying fire carr shirts last year...nothing is sacred...the fans want perfection even if it is unobtainable
